Read about Tracy's latest book, The Wedding Workout.

Celebrity fitness trainer Tracy Effinger co-authored The Wedding Workout with new bride Suzanne Rowen. McGraw-Hill Contemporary Books released the book on January 2. This book is intended to help the bride-to-be tone up, increase her stamina, improver her posture and trim down, if she needs to. It provides a comprehensive workout and nutrition plan and creative ideas for relieving stress.

Effinger has become known for the unique fitness regime she developed, SQUEEZE, which combines techniques from yoga, dance, athletics and Pilates. In addition to teaching packed classes, she trains celebrities privately, such as Sela Ward, Amy Brenneman and Jennifer Stallone. In The Wedding Workout, Effinger provides readers with detailed instructions for the same exercise and nutrition plans that she uses with her clients.

Rowen takes Effinger's fitness classes and followed her nutrition advice to get into shape for her wedding last summer. She knew that Effinger was considering writing a fitness book and approached her with the idea to make it for brides-to-be. Effinger and Rowen decided to write The Wedding Workout together, each providing her unique perspective.

The Wedding Workout is intended to help women feel good about their bodies just as they are and help them maximize their natural gifts. Effinger and Rowen developed the concept of "The Diamond Girls" to represent the different body types (pear, heart, emerald and princess) to make readers feel that every body type is precious. The authors also give advice on which wedding dresses flatter each body type and the importance of proper posture for the walk down the aisle. Throughout the book, the co-authors relay their personal stories and opinions on the challenges of maintaining a healthy body image, exercise and eating.

Many women gain weight in their first year of marriage, according to Dr. Barbara Luke, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Michigan. She attributes part of the weight gain to a woman's tendency to cook more, eat more like her husband eats and to exercise less frequently than when she was single. Weight gain can often lead to reduced self-esteem for many women, according to clinical psychologist Dr. Helen Friedman. Because of this, The Wedding Workout includes information on maintaining a healthy lifestyle through the honeymoon and thereafter.

The Wedding Workout is available at Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon.com, Booksamillion.com and other major book retailers.
